Ability Mastery System

A Worlde of Legends™ Adventurer has ABILITIES which define how he/she functions in combat situations and also what he/she learned (if anything) before becoming a brave Adventurer.  There are six Ability Types in Worlde of Legends™ LITE and an undetermined quantity in the complete game. Some of these ability types also have subtypes to better help you define your Adventurer. Scroll down or click the PDF button below to learn more about Worlde of Legends™ Abilities and the Ability Mastery System.

How the Worlde of Legends
Ability Mastery System Works

1

Primary Ability

At the time of Adventurer creation, each player will choose one of the 6 Abilities as their PRIMARY ABILITY. This is the Adventurer's PRIMARY function in a combat situation. If an Ability has a SUBTYPE, the Adventurer MUST choose a subtype. Primary Abilities are available to all players in both the complete and LITE versions of the Worlde of Legends™ tabletop FRPG. Primary Abilities increase in potency and power as an Adventurer increases in Experience Level and Mastery Rank.

2

Secondary Ability

In the complete version of the Worlde of Legends™ tabletop FRPG, the GameMaster has the option to allow Adventurers to have a SECONDARY ABILITY. A Secondary Ability provides an Adventurer with a second combat function and may or may not be as potent and powerful as the Primary Ability.  If an ability has a SUBTYPE, the Adventurer MUST choose a subtype. Secondary Abilities are not available in Worlde of Legends™ LITE.

3

Tertiary Ability

In both Worlde of Legends™ complete tabletop FRPG and LITE, each Adventurer has the option of having a TERTIARY ABILITY. A Tertiary Ability is a Trade or Craft the Adventurer learned before he/she became and Adventurer. Tertiary Abilityies are chosed from the Trade/Craft options  in the LEARNED SKILLS list and are set at a static success chance as determined by the GameMaster based on the Adventurer's back story.

4

Mastery Ranks

There are 10 Mastery System Ranks available to Adventurers as they advance in Experience Level. Each new Mastery Rank offers increased power and benefits to the Adventurer. An Adventurer may seek training and attempt to advance in Mastery Rank at appropriate Experience Levels. The progression of Mastery Ranks is indicative of an Adventurer practicing his/her Ability both on the practice field and in combat encounter battles. A certain amount of experience and “field work” is required before the Adventurer can seek training to move up to the next Rank.

5

Mastery Advancement

In order to advance in Maastery Rank, an Adventurer must receive training from a qualified instructor.  Instructors can be found in most medium to large cities and some cities even have schools for certain abilities. Players work with their GameMaster to determine the availability of a qualified instructor in any given city.  Once the fees are paid and the time is put in, the Adventurer makes a Training Success Roll to determine if he/she can advance in the chosen ability.  If successful, an Adventurer receives increased power and effectiveness in battle and new battle skills or actions as appropriate for the new Mastery Rank.

6

Mastery Benefits

No matter which of the Worlde of Legends™ Abilities your Adventurer has, there are Mastery System Benefits that improve as your Adventurer increases Experience Level and moves from one Mastery Rank to the Next. These benefits include improvement to Attack Roll Modifier (ARM), Damage Bonus, Weapon Action Maneuvers (WAM aka number of attack actions per round), Additional Skilled + Actions and/or improvement to existing S+As, and even more benefits at the upper Mastery Ranks including Initiative Bonus and improved chance of Critical Hit.
